Patient Registries Policy Retreat
Patient Registries: An Innovative Tool for Advancing Clinical and Translational Research
Wednesday June 4, 2008
Sponsored by the Arizona Biomedical Research Commission and Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association
Why? Recruiting patients into clinical trials and keeping them in trials once they’ve signed on is a significant challenge for clinical research. Patient registries are emerging as a critical clinical research tool for tracking health outcomes, conducting post-marketing studies and for facilitating the identification, outreach and communications needed to recruit, retain and track patients in clinical trials.
What will the retreat cover?
• Value of Patient Registries for Clinical Research…from the perspective of hospitals,
physicians, researchers, patients and industry.
• How to Create and Operate Patient Registries…to get the most out of advances in database and Internet technologies to make patient registries an effective tool for identification, outreach, and tracking of patients for clinical trials, as well as a patient-friendly communications tool.
• How to Comply with Regulatory Requirements: Informed Consent, HIPAA Privacy, and Data Ownership…to address patient consent to participate in registries, to comply with privacy requirements, and to anticipate data ownership issues.
• Unique Arizona Resources…from database resources to identify populations and key physicians, to patient advocacy resources.
Featured Speakers?
This policy retreat will feature national and local speakers and profile Arizona-based
activities with expert resources available to those considering making use of patient
registries for clinical research. After the retreat is completed, the Arizona Translational Resource Network (AzTransNet) will convene those interested in advancing patient registries for clinical research to guide development of template forms and to provide access to Arizona-based expert resources to help in planning and operating their patient registries.
Who should attend?
• Research leaders considering use of patient registries to further their research programs
• Research administrators involved in or considering patient registries
• Quality assurance staff in hospitals responsible for patient registries
• Industry partners utilizing patient registries for clinical research.
• Patient advocates
